I was speaking to a friend of mine about our skincare routine and she made a few points which got me quite worried. I realised not a lot of people realise the damage their skincare routine is doing to their skin.
Cleansers gets rid of unwanted oils, dirt and make up. However, harsh cleansers will overly dry the skin. So, while you think cleansing several times may be giving you clean skin, it isn’t always a good thing.
Exfoliating the skin is good as it gets rid of dead skin cells and promotes skin regeneration to name a few. But this can be one of the most damaging steps. It’s recommended to exfoliate 2-3 times a week. However, exfoliating too much can cause dry, irritated skin and therefore make wrinkles more prominent.
3. Not Using Sunscreen
A lot of people think you only have to wear sunscreen when it is sunny outside. But scientific studies have recommended the use of sunscreen every day. The sun is perhaps the number one contributor to premature ageing so it is essential that you use sunscreen.
4. Using too much product
Using too many products isn’t good for the skin. All these layers added together prevent the skin from being able to breath and therefore cause breakouts. Most of the products don’t need to be used every day. So use serums, exfoliators and face masks every other day. And the staple set of products such as a cleanser and moisturiser everyday.
5. Using The Same Products Over A Long Period Of Time
The effectiveness of certain products decreases over the years as you get older. The reason is because your skin cells change and cell regeneration slows down. A product you used a few years ago which worked really well won’t work as well in a few years.
I hope you found this helpful.
